The Claro Community Archaeology Group (CCAG) is a voluntary organisation that has been active since the late 1980’s, with a current membership of approximately twenty members.
The group was founded by Mary Kershaw, Former Curator of Harrogate Museums Service. Kevin Cale, Community Archaeology Ltd was instrumental in setting up the group and developing its methodology. Kevin Cale is still the groups mentor and adviser as it has taken on new roles and trained new members.
Meetings of the group are held at frequent intervals for discussions on progress and relevant updates. The group operates on Thursdays between 9.00am and 3.30pm meeting at the Undercroft, Knaresborough Courthouse Museum, Castle Yard, Knaresborough.
New members are always welcome.
What We Do
CCAG main purpose is to investigate by a variety of means the archaeology and history of settlement within the Harrogate District.
In the spring of 2014 CCAG was awarded its latest Heritage Lottery Fund Grant, “In search of lost Scotton” to find evidence to create a narrative of the village of Scotton, Knaresborough, from earliest times to the Second World War.
